Now released! Rain Worthington’s Night Stream and Rhythm Modes
on Navona’s ELEMENTS RISING CD
Navona Records’ latest offering of chamber music ELEMENTS RISING highlights contemporary composers who re-imagine the building blocks of music, such as melody, harmony, rhythm, dynamics, and timbre, in innovative ways, applying them to a number of duo and ensemble settings.
Night Stream has had a wonderful history of performances with a World Premiere at the 2014 PARMA Music Festival, a CT Premiere at the Festival of Women Composers in Hartford, and a NY Premiere by Miolina (Mioi Takeda and Lynn Bechtold).
While Rhythm Modes was given its premiere by the Sirius String Quartet in NYC, with a subsequent NYC concert performance.

Coming up December 18th… Afternoon Reflections in the evening
Please join me at the next Musical Amoeba concert – December 18th, “American Voice“at 8:30pm, Christ and St. Stephen’s Church, NYC
Musical Amoeba Founder, Composer, and Clarinetist, William Wheeler, will be performing my piece for solo Bass Clarinet, Afternoon Reflections.
Although this work has had a varied and interesting history – an award in Great Britain with a premiere performance in London by Marc B. Naylor; a nice write up in The Clarinet Journal by Robert Riseling, and a home studio recording by Italian virtuoso clarinetist, Guido Arbonelli.
This will be the US Premiere, and the first time for me hearing it performed live!
Hope you’ll come enjoy the sound of bass clarinet in concert!

I’m very excited that the recording of my piece, Within a Dance–a tone poem of love, for small orchestra, is part of this terrific enhanced-content compilation disc (with scores included) LUMINESCENCE, Navona Records, NV5969 (2014)
http://www.parmarecordings.blogspot.com/2014/09/september-releases-on-navona-and.html
LUMINESCENCE brings to light six works for small and large orchestra, showcasing the inspired directions and composers of contemporary orchestral music.
Rain Worthington’s Within a Dance–a tone poem of love reflects on a first invitation to dance and the continuation of the dance of love with a tenderness of touch and a lingering embrace. Her music communicates its emotions and speaks to the senses.

Thrilling to hear two incredible violinists perform “Night Stream” at the August 15 concert at the PARMA Music Festival. Thank you Sylvia Ahramjian & Emily Hanna Crane!!!
Program note: Reflecting on the flow of life and time, imagined impressionistically as lights streaming across a rain-streaked window on a late night taxi ride through city streets.

Eva Ingolf’s premiere of my piece, An Evening Indigo
Looking forward… I would like to invite you to Eva Ingolf’s premiere of my piece, An Evening Indigo.
I composed this piece especially for her in response to her call for short solo violin pieces.
And, I’m delighted to say, YAY, she liked it and will be playing it at the July 27th Vox Novus Composer’s Voice concert in NYC!
If you’re in the city then, it’d be a treat to see you there and say hello.
And, always appreciated is your support of live performances of music by some wonderful composers, performed by some masterful musicians!

May 10th, Lynn Bechtold performing “Paper Wings”
Saturday, May 10th, violinist, Lynn Bechtold will be performing my solo violin piece, Paper Wings, which I had composed upon request from violinist, Michael Braudy to premiere at a concert in India, and dedicated to my mother.
Coincidentally not only is this concert taking place on Mother’s Day weekend, but also interesting that this is at the Poets House, since my piece Paper Wings is about my my mother’s writing, and she has now been writing more poetry at this stage of her life.
This should be a nice concert program, if you’re out and about and in the mood for some lovely music, and also, importantly in these times, want to show your appreciation of live performances of music.

Michael Braudy’s Performances in India
Violinist, Michael Braudy has premiered several of my compositions for solo violin in his concerts in India. The first was the premiere of Paper Wings, which I had composed upon his request. Most recently, he performed two short solo violin pieces, After Thought (premiere) and Frost Vapors (which I had composed for violinist, Eva Ingolf’s tribute to her homeland of Iceland.)
Here’s a lovely poster for two of Michael’s most recent concerts.
